Cancellation of the u20, Cameroon International friendly match
Under National 20 football friendly match between Cameroon and Kenya has been called off.

In a Press Statement sent to newsroom by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) read that the cancellation of the friendly match was called off at the request of the Cameroonian Football Association.

The match which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday December, 2016 will now be played on a date to be agreed upon by both parties.

The letter read that “FKF wishes to apologies for any inconveniences caused this even as the federation strives to organize high profile friendlies for all national teams in line with its vision for qualifying for the 2022 world Cup.”

The Kenya Under-20 football team was supposed to play two international friendly matches against Cameroon in December.

According to FKF, John Kamau’s charges are scheduled to tackle Cameroon on December 10 away before hosting the same side on December 17 in Nairobi.

Last month, the Kenyan Under-20 played South Africa in another friendly match where they lost 3-1 thanks to goals from Captain Tercius Malepe and second half substitutes Menzi Ndwandwe and Lehlohonolo Radebe at Tsakane Stadium in Brakpan.

Kenya got a consolation goal from second-half substitute Francis Muturi Kinyua.
Cameroon is gearing up for Africa Under -20 Cup of Nations, which will take place from February 26 to March 12 in Zambia next year.

Cameroon is in pool B together with Senegal, South Africa and Sudan.

The first four teams from continental tourney will qualify for 2017 FIFA Under -20 World Cup to be held in South Korea from May 20 to June 11.

FKF issues warning on unlicensed clubs



Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have handed clubs one week notice to comply with CAF (Confederation of African Football) licensing rules and regulations.

 FKF Chairman Nick Mwendwa said that clubs that don’t apply for the license will have to be relegated to the lower leagues.

Mwendwa said, “It’s a FIFA and CAF regulation and not our own making. Clubs must obtain CAF license to participate in the top leagues and we have extended the deadline to Friday December 16.”

“Clubs that will not apply for the same by deadline day will risk being relegated to lower leagues. If in KPL, they will be relegated to National Super League,” said Mwendwa.

Three clubs have been issued with the certificate to participate in the league come next year.

Tusker and Ulinzi were awarded certificates due to their participation in the CAF champion’s league while Wazito FC was awarded yesterday.

“There are 16 clubs in the Sportpesa premier league and 20 clubs in the National Super league and only 15 clubs in those two divisions have sent their application,” said FKF chairman.

He added that 12 clubs have begun their process that is; AFC Leopards, Chemelil Sugar, Gor Mahia, KK Homeboyz, Sony Sugar, Thika United, Palos FC, Kariobangi Sharks, KCB, Nakumatt, Zoo Kericho and Posta Rangers.

Kenya Sevens National Team to have a new Shirt

 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has today unveiled Sport Betting firm Sportpesa as the official shirt sponsor of the Kenya Sevens national team.

This is after previous sponsor’s Kenya Airways the contract expires on Wednesday November 30th 2016.

Speaking today during the unveiling of the shirt, KRU Chairman Richard Omwela said that they were pleased with the sponsorship forged with Sportpesa and with this support the rugby team will scale even to greater heights.

Omwela also paid tribute to outgoing shirt sponsors Kenya Airways saying, “We appreciate the support Kenya Airways have accorded the Kenya sevens team and the KRU in general.”

He added that KRU will continue working with Kenya Airways  as the promotion of their destinations through rugby as a key to travelling base and  also as a sport tourism destination.

Omwela praised the collaborative support of Safaricom, KBL, General Motors, Dasani and Tatu City in sustaining long term development of Rugby in the country.

Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri said that they were proud to be the official shirt sponsors of Rugby sevens.

Karauri said that the players will be awarded bonuses based on their performance which is part of their deal. 

“If they win in any series, each player receives Ksh 6000,000 ( 6,000 dollars) , runners up  Ksh 300,000 (3,000 dollars),  Ksh 150,000 (1,500 dollars)  in the semis and Ksh 100,000 ( 1,000 dollars) in the plate final.

Sportpesa offered KRU Ksh. 607 million shillings deal in July that saw Sportpesa become partner in all its activities including the Kenya Sevens Men’s team.

The deal also covers the development of Kenya Simba’s, Kenya U19s, Kenya Lionesses and other youth programmes with the target of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

Sportpesa is a sport betting company in Kenya which provides both mobile and online platform for sports betting.

Former Germany player and boss Jurgen Klinsmann has been sacked as coach of the United States.

The 52-year-old, who won the World Cup as a player with Germany in 1990, took over as US boss in 2011.
Klinsmann steered the United States to the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after finishing above Portugal in their group.
However, they lost 2-1 at home to Mexico and 4-0 away to Costa Rica in their opening two qualifying matches for the 2018 tournament.
The US are pointless and bottom of the six-country qualifying group,below the likes of Panama and Honduras, albeit only a fifth of the way through the qualifying process.
Former Tottenham striker Klinsmann was linked with the England job after Sam Allardyce left his post in September.

All set for the 4th Edition of Miles and Hope Masinga Bikeathon
The 4th Edition of the Miles and Hope will see cyclists traverse Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties covering 400 kilometers.

The event that has been dubbed the Masinga Bikeathon has attracted a record 30 cyclists.  

The event will start at International Christian Church (ICC) on 24th November at 7am. After flag off, the cyclists will cover 154.54 kilometers passing through Thika, Matuu before finishing the day at Masinga with an estimated time of 6:32:12.

Day two will see the cyclist cover four areas starting from Masinga, Kindaruma, Gitaru and Kamburu a total distance of 98.3 kilometers. 
The 30 cyclists will continue with the extraneous journey on day three covering 99.2 kilometre from Masinga to Thika. 

Day 4 will take the cyclists an estimated 2 hours from Thika back to the ICC Church for the prize giving ceremony. 

According to the captain of the team Daudi Wanderi the event will test the nerves and skills of the participants.

“We have been training hard for this moment and we believe that the exposure gained so far will be key to complete the outing successfully,” said Wanderi.

He further added that riding across the seven folks will offer great thrill to the participants and spectators.






Marathon

Launch of Afrika Mashariki Fest Half Marathon Kenya Chapter

For the first time, Kenya is set to host the third edition of the Afrika Mashariki Fest Half Marathon-Kenya Chapter on the 11th December 2016 at Mama Ngina Drive, Mombasa County.

The event will be hosted annually on a rotational basis across 6 East Africa Commission (EAC) partner states include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Group Chief Executive Afrika Mashariki Fest Kisembo Ronex said that the purpose for bringing the event to Kenya is to create awareness among youths about EAC integration, fostering cohesion among citizens, promote domestic tourism and sustainable utilization of our natural resources. 

Mr. Kisembo added that the event also aims to support the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals in East Africa.

“The Half Marathon symbolizes the need for East Africans to unite in pursuit of our common dream- a united East Africa and in order for EAC states to go further, they must run together,” said Kisembo.

This year’s race theme is Promoting Domestic Tourism through Embracing Sports.

Athletic Kenya (AK) president Jackson Tuwei said that AK is highly privileged to host such an event in Kenya.

“The federation is very happy to host a new event in Kenya and we will promote the event to a bigger one,” said AK president.

Mr. Kisembo said that Ksh600, 000 will be awarded to winners in the 21km race and 10km race both men and women.

Top ten athletes will be awarded in both races with the new winner of 21km receives Ksh60, 000, runners up pockets 40, 000 and second runners up will cash in Ksh30, 000.

The winner of 10km will go home with Ksh25, 000, runners up pockets Ksh20, 000 and second runners up receives Ksh15, 000.

2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Champion, Abel Kirui, is among those who will be aiming for the top crown in the 21km race. 

Athletes who are willing to participate will pay a sum of Ksh1, 000. They can register at the Mombasa municipal, AK offices in Nairobi and on line at their website(www.afrikamasharikifest.com)

The Afrika Mashariki Fest Half Marathon was held on the 31st May 2015 and the subsequent edition was held on the 29thMay 2016 at the Kololo Independence grounds in Kampala Uganda.

The event will be hosted every second Sunday in the month of December annually in Kenya.

Tusker

Tusker youth team will be conducting three days trials for talented young footballers to reinforce the under 20 team. 
“The player selection and trials will be conducted at our training ground in Ruaraka starting Thursday 3rd November 2016 and will run up to Saturday 5th Novembers 2016,” said Team manager Calvin Odhiambo
In a statement sent to media houses, activities timing will be strictly from 11am with a probability of a friendly match on the same weekend when the trials will be completed.
The process will be conducted by the Tusker Youth team coaches and will be strictly monitored to avoid age cheating and any other malpractices. 
All players willing to attend are called upon to tag with them their original birth certificate and the photocopy, their identification cards and if in school, carry along a document proving the same.
Mr. Odhiambo said that those from outside Nairobi are requested to find friends or relatives who can accommodate them since the team won't carter for it. Players will be selected on merit. 
Incepted in 2012, the youth team was formed with an aim of identifying players with excellent football skills and assisting them in achieving their football ambition while also empowering them with academic enrichment. 
The team is tasked to produce quality players for the Tusker senior team and also contribute to various clubs in the country. The youth team actively participates in year round Aberdares Branch FKF Regional League.
The newly recruited U-20 team will reinforce the other players to play in the Kenya Premier League U-20tournament at a date to be announced later and the league matches.

The 14th edition of Baringo Half Marathon has received a sponsorship of Sh. 3 million from Lotto foundation.
The event slated for November 5th at Kabartonjo, in Baringo County has also received Sh.200, 000 from Kenya Commercial Bank.
Over 250 athletes will participate in four different races that include the 21km race, 12 km wheel chair race, 6 km junior race and 10 km race open to individuals and corporate.
Top winners of the half marathon will take home Sh 200,000 while the winner of the 10km will receive Sh. 30,000 respectively.
Patron Paul Tergat in a speech read on his behalf today by Mr. Douglas Wakihuri during the launch of the race at a Nairobi hotel said sports events at the grassroots were crucial as they create opportunities to nurture talents.
Tergat who commended the sponsors for their donation said their participation in such events immensely transforms the lives of many people as future champions are discovered and nurtured.
“Mary Kaitany, former London marathon winner was discovered in the Baringo Half Marathon,” he noted.
Chief Executive Officer, Lotto Foundation East Africa, Mr. Brian Waluchio said the foundation’s is committed to uplifting the living standards of Kenyans through nurturing of talents, adding that they will continue to partner with other corporate bodies to improve the same.
Baringo County Youth and Sports Executive, Lilian Sadalla said sporting activities are important as they help to promote peace and cohesion amongst communities.
“Baringo County has two training centres and major races like Chemusis and Baringo half Marathon, we are happy as a county government to have such projects that impact positively on the lives of the community”, she added.

Mike Dean has been selected to officiate the clash between Arsenal and Middlesbrough on Saturday at 5:00 O'clock Kenyan Time.

Last year September during Arsenal vs Chelsea game, he dished out two red cards to Santiago Carzola and Gabriel Paulista.

He red carded Paulista after a clash with Diego Costa. Costa was not red carded after the player showed 4 incidents of being sent off but he just escaped with a yellow card.

After the game Arsenal fans petitioned for Mike Dean not to officiate their matches and it received a major boost after they collected 100,000 signatures.

The petition further says that major incidents have occurred in recent and past games that shows is an inept refereeing at his level.

In the last five matches Mike Dean has officiated, Arsenal has not won in any single game.

NOCK AFFILIATE TO PROCEED THE REVIEW OF NOCK CONSTITUTION


The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) affiliates federation has today vowed to continue with the NOCK Constitution Review Process since NOCK Executive is reluctant.

Speaking at a Nairobi hotel, President of Kenya Table Tennis Association and also the Interim secretary of NOCK, Andrew Mudibo said that NOCK through its Secretary General, Francis K. Paul, is reluctant to proceed with the Constitution Review process according to its mutually agreed timelines
.
It was agreed that the interim NOCK, selected by NOCK Executive that in the morning meeting on 5th October, they will continue with the review of the constitution which will be transparent to the board.

It was also agreed that since the interim NOCK office has already started the process of reviewing the Constitution, the working document will be circulated to the Federations after the first joint constitution review meeting.

Though the constitution review was not completed on 5th October as it had been anticipated, a second meeting was called for 10th October to finalize on the document for it to be circulated across all federations.

“ As officials of our National Sports Federation, we shall not sit back and watch NOCK fall due to the personal interests of selected few individuals,” said Mudibo.

They vowed to take action that will redeem NOCK as credible, transparent and athlete-centered institution at the expense of the hard-work of Kenyan Sports men and women.

As a federation we are ready to face consequences of our actions even if it leads to a ban from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“We will be very happy to be banned by the IOC thus giving the government enough time to organize in house policy not just NOCK but also all sports federations in Kenya,” said Mudibo.

The Federation will no longer be held ransom by the mismanagement and corruption that has plagued our sports for many years.

The NOCK affiliates have vowed to invite IOC to send a team of investigators to come to Kenya so as to investigate the conduct of NOCK officials and inspect NOCK accounts for funds that they have been giving to NOCK for its affiliates programs.

They also promised to record statements with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) over abuse of office, misuse of funds, ownership of NOCK assets, mismanagement of NOCK properties and illegal withholding of the Nike kit.

The Federation also shall initiate a forensic audit of all NOCK accounts and assets to be carried out and for the findings to be published for the sake of transparency and accountability within the institution.    

 NOCK Affiliates held an Extra Ordinary Assembly and appointed an interim NOCK office after the disbanding of NOCK officials by the Cabinet Secretary of Sports Dr. Hassan Wario for mishandling of Kenya athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic games.

The Interim NOCK office was set in motion as per the resolutions of the meeting, to review the current NOCK constitution with emphases being amending and aligning the NOCK Constitution to the Sports Act 2013, the Constitution of Kenya and the Olympic Charter.

Who is Innocent Simiyu?

Innocent Simiyu,33, alias Namcos is not new in the Kenyan rugby circles as he skippered both the Kenya Sevens and 15s teams, scoring 58 tries and 15 conversions in the 121 appearances he made for Kenya on the World Sevens Rugby Series between 2002 and 2010.

The youthful coach, who holds a IRB Coaching Level 2 Certificate, comes from a rugby family. He is a sibling of former national team captain Victor Sudi and Impala RFC fly half Nato Simiyu.
Apart from captaining the national teams, Simiyu coached his Ngong Road club Impala in 2014 after coming from a career threatening knee injury he suffered in 2011 during the Bamburi Rugby Super Series. He was a regular player in Ayimba’s team that reached the semi finals of the 2009 Rugby Sevens World Cup in Dubai.

KENYA RUGBY UNION ANNOUNCES NATIONAL SEVENS MANAGEMENT TEAMS

The Kenya Rugby Union has on Monday unveiled the management teams for its men's and women's squads.

Former Rugby 7's Captain Innocent Simiyu takes over the mantle of the men's team with Erick Ogweno coming in as the team manager.

Ian Gibbons will be the new strength and conditioning  coah while Lameck Bogonko retains his slot as Team Physio.

Kevin Wambua, who has been acting in an interim capacity, was confirmed as the womens head coah with former player Camilyn Oyuayo taking over the team manager's docket.

Samuel Njogu is the new strength and conditioning while Ben Mahinda stays on as Team Physio.

Olympic champions to participate in Ndalat Grass Cross

Athletics who won different medals in the just concluded Olympic champions will participate in this year 8th Edition of the Ndalat Gaa Cross County marathon.

The official launch was done at the Athletics Kenya (AK) head office, Riadha House. The 8th edition of Ndalat Gaa Cross country will be held on 15th October at Mosop constituency in Nandi County.
Athletics Kenya Central Rift Chairman Abraham “solo” Mutai said “this year’s race is bigger than the previous races and the participants expected to more than 5,000.”

The winners of senior races will get Kshs 40,000, veterans Kshs 15,000 and all top 20 finishers will be rewarded.

The race ambassador, 3,000m steeplechase Olympic gold medalist Conseslus Kipruto said he will be part of the race because he is also the product of Ndalat Gaa. “My first cross country that I ever ran was Ndalat and I was in high school and am so proud to be associated with this great event.”
Nicodemus Kipkirui and Caroline Chepkoech will be defending the men and women crowns which they took last year.

“We have partnered with Kimbilio Hospice that cares about cancer and HIV patients and we are pleased to say that it’s the biggest cancer institution in Kenya and is based in Kipkaren near the border of Uasin Gishu and Nandi”, said Joel Sawe the CEO of Kimbilio Hospice.

The president of Athletics Kenya Jackson Tuwei said that, “there are individuals who are holding athletics event without the AK certificate, we warn them and the sponsors who are part of these races to desist from the exercise and seek the office clearance.”

“AK cannot authorize events that they don’t adhere to the doping bill,” said AK president Tuwei.
The race has been put into 5 categories, 7- 12 years, 13 – 18 years, Senior Men and Women and the last category is the veterans.

The deputy governor of Nandi County Dominic Biwott said, “We are happy for this course that has given us an identity in the country.

“We will contribute 1.2 million towards the event, offer ambulance services and close all roads the race will use,” said the deputy governor Nandi County.

Mosop Member of Parliament Kirwa Bitok said that they are happy to host the event in his home area and he will support the event with Kshs 300,000.

The Nandi women representative Hon. Zipporah Kering who also worked with the AK before she joined politics also pledged Kshs 500,000 towards the event. She said athletics made her who she is today “through athletics I have grown and as you can see am a the women rep of Nandi County,” said Zipporah.

The race was the brain child of the late Athletics Kenya President Isaiah Kiplagat which he started eight years ago. This is the last time the race will be called Ndalat Gaa cross country, we will change the name from next season to honor our Former Athletics Kenya President the late Isaac Kiplagat, said the Mutai.

Ndalat Gaa cross Country has produced some of the finest athletes ruling the world they include, Eliud Kipchoge the London Marathon and Olympic Champion gold medalist, Stanley Biwott, Prisca Cheptoo,Agnes Tirop and Faith Chepngetich the Olympic 1500m gold Medalist who has won the marathon four season consecutively.

Starlets jet back to a heroic Welcome

Harambee Starlets yesterday received a heroic welcome after they finished as runners up in the just concluded CECAFA championship in Jinja, Uganda.

       Starlets were received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa and thousands of fans and later  hosted for lunch 

         Mwendwa thanked the ministry of sports for supporting the federation saying the ministry has sponsored all the trips that the national team has played including CECAFA and African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2016 which is set to be played in Cameroon

          " The  work of the federation is to ensure the job is done when the ministry supports it and  FKF will  strive to ensure the way sports is played in this country changes for the better", he said 

          He noted that  for many years Sports has been viewed as politics and lots of stories but his federation will love to be recognized with tangible actions.

           Mwendwa said  FKF is compliant to the sports Act and that they are partnering with the Ministry  of education and Kenyatta University so as to have a massive education programme for over 2,000 coaches by 2020.

         Mr. Weslas Ongayo from the ministry of Sports representing Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario said that the ministry will continue to support the team.

        He however urged FKF to embody the values in which the Country stands for. “FKF should embrace integrity, transparency and accountability in managing our Sports,” said Ongayo.

      He further urged the sports ladies to invest while young and be active so as to have a better old age life and  called upon  FKF to form cooperative or an insurance company for its members to invest.

          Ongayo encouraged the ladies to put patriotism before them as they represent Kenya in the International competition.

            Starlets lost 2-1 to Tanzania after conceding two first half goals but they equalized in the 60th minute. 

           Their main aim is to finish top four in AFCON 2016, win CECAFA make it to the 2019 World Cup.
